We are delighted to say that Hilperton has come top of the West Wiltshire round of the Best Kept Village Competition, in the large village category.
The judges enjoyed their visit to Hilperton just before the Platinum Jubilee weekend in June and were pleased to see the village taking an active role in the celebrations. They were impressed with the well cared-for allotments and orchard with all the fruit trees carefully labelled, and the display of flora and fauna charts in the allotment shed. The wild flower meadow was at its best and showed a keen regard for conservation and biodiversity. The judges felt that this was clearly a busy area of the village and widely supported.
They loved the variety of good quality playground equipment at the Village Hall, and particularly the brand new equipment, which was purchased by the Parish Council to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and installed a few days prior to the celebrations.
St. Michael’s churchyard was mentioned as being very tidy throughout and stunning with pink valerian in full flower.
The judges, in their summing up, said that Hilperton was clearly a well-run village with an active Parish Council, which took pride in its community. They felt the village had a busy feel to it and offered a wide variety of activities, and it was a pleasure to visit.
